82 of the shortlisted candidates from Oyam district have been recruited into the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces in yesterday's recruitment at Florence Nightingale Nursing School in Apac district.
Of the 140, only 97 of the shortlisted candidates reported for the recruitment exercise at the recruitment center for vetting and final Medical examination.
However, 43 were absent and did not turn up for the exercise at the center for reasons not known while 06 of the candidates were disqualified from the exercise for presenting fake Uganda Certificate of Education transcript.
They were handed over to the DISO of Oyam Mr. Adam Jaffer Elyas before the Assistant RDC , Mr. Ocen Patrick and GISO of Ngai Sub County Mr. Okello Stephen.
In total, 91 were fully screened for in-depth medical examination among other screenings to get the 82 cream personnel's needed.
According to the quota allotted to Oyam district, only 82 were enrolled into UPDF out of the of the 91 who were fully screened.
Their eligibility were determined after a thorough screening of their academic credentials and other particulars to include National Identity Cards, Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), Medical and physical test examinations among other screenings set as a maximum standard by the UPDF in ensuring the right recruits are enrolled into the forces.
UPDF team six conducting national recruitment exercise in East Acholi started on the 5th of July 2024 and will close on 14 July 2024.
The team successfully concluded with recruitment drives in the districts of Pader, Agago, Lira City, Lira district, Amolatar, Kitgum, Otuke, Dokolo, Apac, Kwania,Alebtong, Kalaki and Kaberamaido.
The potential ninety seven recruit candidates from Oyam lined up at Nightingale Nursing School as the recruitment centre early morning with the hope of joining the armed forces.
However, many of these had their hopes diminished when they were turned away for lack of National Identity cards and UCE certificates, Physical medical examination and a 4 km physical run test as one of the requirements for those seeking to join the army.
"The exercise will end with Kole district today where the team will recruit only 52 potential candidates," Capt Kato Ahmad Hassan , UPDF 4Infantry Division Public Information Officer.
